BUSINESS
MassLive | Park Labrea News/Beverly Press | The Signal | The Sundial
Small businesses are a key component of American life. Nowhere else is this more true than in a tightly-knit small town or a ritzy polyp of Los Angeles. Becoming immersed in the variety of small businesses in Los Angeles County and in Central Massachusetts revealed a missing piece to my once mundane work in a restaurant: the human impact or, in essence, why business matters at all from the perspectives of the business owner and of the worker. The roots go back to our yeoman beginning tied to our national origin. Exposure to so many employees and managers brought me into a more complicated sphere to which I have grown more focused on as workers' conditions go into flux thanks to pandemics, recessions, inflation and the ambition to unionize.
